New Delhi:
Congress on Thursday backed the call for “Bharat Bandh” launched by peasant organizations for Friday, saying millions of party workers stand in solidarity with the farmers’ cause and will participate in their dharnas.
Chief Congressman Randeep Sujewala said that while farmers and laborers filled peasants’ stomachs with their hard work, the Modi government attacked them and their fields.
“The demonic and debilitating attack on farmers and farm workers by the Modi government’s three ‘black bills’ will be definitively defeated.
“Congress and Rahul Gandhi strongly support the farmers and support the Bharat Bandh. The workers and the leaders of the Congress will join the farmers dharna and the protests,” he tweeted.
“The farmer’s cry will echo across the country on Friday in the ‘Bharat Bandh’,” Surjewala said.
“Millions of congressional workers under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi stand alongside farmers,” he said in another Tweet in Hindi.
Earlier, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet: “The priorities of the Modi government – Instead of talking to farmers and workers to find a solution to their problems, busy with public relations”.
He also published a media report on the Prime Minister’s interaction with his tweet.
Delhi Congress leader Anil Chaudhary said party workers in Delhi will launch a plan to raise the voice of farmers and farm workers in parliament to the panchayats. He said workers would take to the streets against farm bills.
Congress has decided to hold marches in each state, after which memorandums will be submitted to the respective governors on September 28 against these farm bills, which it says are against the interests of farmers and farm workers.
