In view of the reopening of economic activities amid the COVID-19 pandemic, an intensive program “Jan Andolan“was launched to raise awareness of precautions against the virus, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said Tuesday.

During a joint press briefing with the Ministry of Health and Niti Aayog, the secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Amit Khare, said during its first week of launch, the ‘‘jan andolangarnered 2.33 billion impressions and trended on Twitter with the hashtag “Unite2fightCorona”.

“I would like to thank the media on behalf of the ministry for their invaluable contribution to disseminating information about COVID-19 in the country. I feel and appreciate that the media have played a leading role in conveying the message of precautionary measures to be taken against COVID-19 across the country. He played a very important role, ”Mr. Khare said.

He said the winter season and religious and other holidays were approaching and the economy was also opening up, therefore, precautions were essential.

“The season for religious holidays and the like is approaching. The economy is opening up, but in doing so, we must take precautions. We have allowed schools to open, SOPs for colleges are also coming and from October 15, even the movie theaters open to many places.

“On the one hand, the economy is opening up and on the other, we must take precautions. In response, we launched a campaign on October 8. You must wear a mask, maintain physical distance and wash your hands to maintain hygiene at all times. Let’s adapt to this new normal, ”Khare said.

He said the “Jan Andolan“will be an intensive campaign in October and November and will continue through March in various forms to reach 90 million people in the country.

“We are putting up banners and posters in several public places and outside government offices. We will involve frontline workers, including teachers and Anganwadi workers, etc.

“Around 500 influencers from various fields, Amitabh Bachchan, Shankar Mahadevan, Sania Mirza, Kartik Aaryan, Rajkumar Rao, Anil Kapoor, Divya Dutta, Saina Nehwal have shown their support,” he said.

Besides them, 30 Union Ministers and 15 Governors and Chief Ministers joined the campaign and spread the message.
