Police said they cracked the double murder case on Mira Road in Thane district of Maharashtra with the arrest of a 35-year-old boy from Pune.
The accused, Kallu Yadav, was arrested on Friday for the crime he allegedly committed on May 30, said a police official.
According to the police, the murder was the result of a dispute between the accused and the victims over food.
The bodies of the victims, Harish Shetty (42) and Naresh Pandit (53), were found in the water tank of the Sabari restaurant and bar at Mira Road in the early hours of Friday, the official said.
While Mr. Shetty worked as a manager at the restaurant, Mr. Pandit was a cleaner. The accused worked as a waiter at this restaurant, he added.
“Several marks of injuries were found on the bodies of the victims. During the investigation, the police learned that Mr. Yadav started working in a restaurant in Pune after committing the crime,” said the official.
On Friday, a team of police rushed to Pune and arrested Mr. Yadav from the Parvati region.
“During questioning, Mr. Yadav admitted that he had murdered the duo. He said that the manager used to get delicious food, but offered him a bland meal. He said he was annoyed by this and decided to eliminate Mr. Shetty and Mr. Pandit. “said the official.
“As a result, he attacked them with a spade while they were sleeping. He then dragged their bodies and threw them into a water tank at the restaurant,” said crime scene inspector Venkat Andhale. the rural police of Thane.
He said that, according to the preliminary inquiry, the accused had also been involved in a murder case in Kolkata in 2013 and had been behind bars in this regard in the past.
