New Delhi:
Surya Grahan or solar eclipse, the first cosmic event of 2020, will take place on June 21. It will be an annular eclipse, often called a “ring of fire”. It will be visible from Asia, Africa, Europe, Australia and of course India on Saturday. This eclipse will not be as bright as that of December 26 of last year.
What is an annular eclipse?
The annular eclipse occurs when the Sun, the Moon and the Earth arrive on the same plane and that the Moon is furthest from the Earth. The Moon does not block all the Sun because it is smaller and therefore looks like a dark disc surrounded by a ring of flame color and which creates the “ring of fire” effect.
Surya Grahan’s Time
In India, the Surya Grahan will start near Gharsana in Rajasthan around 10:12. The annular phase will start around 11:49 a.m. and end at 11:50 a.m., MP Birla Planetarium director Debi Prasad Duari told PTI news agency.
The “ring of fire” is better visible, just one minute, from Suratgarh and Anupgarh in Rajasthan, Sirsa, Ratia and Kurukshetra in Haryana, and Dehradun, Chamba, Chamoli and Joshimath in Uttarakhand.
the annular solar eclipse will be visible without any equipment, but it is recommended to use some kind of eye protection.
According to NASA, the Moon will block 99.4% of the Sun at its peak and will be very visible from northern India.
This year we will witness three additional eclipses – the first two will be a lunar eclipse in July and November and the third will be a solar eclipse in December.
