New Delhi:

House segregation should no longer be allowed in Delhi, the interior ministry reportedly told the city government amid growing cases of coronavirus. Sources say the Interior Ministry has asked the Delhi government to end the policy.

If the new rule is applied, all cases of coronavirus in Delhi will be sent to government quarantine centers. Currently, those who are positive for COVID-19 but asymptomatic are allowed to be isolated in the home with precautions.

Currently, more than 8,400 coronavirus patients in Delhi are isolated at home.

The Interior Ministry’s new rule could become controversial, especially as the Delhi government says it is struggling to keep up with demand for hospital beds.

Hospitals claiming a shortage of beds, 500 train cars have been prepared as isolation units.

It is the latest Delhi government decision that the center has overturned in recent weeks.

Earlier, the government decisions of the Aam Aadmi party to reserve beds in public hospitals for Delhi patients and to restrict testing only to those with symptoms of COVID-19 were overturned by the lieutenant governor, who represents the center.

Interior Minister Amit Shah last week met with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and developed a plan for the battle against the virus in Delhi, which included increased testing.

Delhi is the third most affected country in the country with 49,979 cases of coronavirus and 1,969 deaths.
