New Delhi:

The Supreme Court gave Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana a week to decide on a common interstate movement policy in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). The superior court also ordered the center to convene a meeting of the three states and decide on a common portal.

Delhi sealed its borders for a week Monday amid a disturbing increase in cases of coronavirus. The sealing order came a few hours after Haryana opened the borders between Gurgaon and Delhi in accordance with revised center-wide locking guidelines, according to which non-essential interstate movement of vehicles would now be allowed without an electronic passport or permit special.

Noida of Uttar Pradesh, which also shares a border with Delhi, sealed all roads in April to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Noida’s administration confirmed on Sunday that the border will remain closed until further notice, saying 42% of cases in the region have been traced to Delhi.

Massive traffic jams have been reported at the Delhi-Gurgaon border, frustrated commuters point out that despite orders from the Haryana government, they are still asked to show electronic passes.
