Kerala has reported more recoveries than new cases of COVID-19. (Representative)

Kerala reported more recoveries on Sunday than new cases of COVID-19, said Minister of State for Health KK Shailaja. The minister said 56 people have recovered from COVID-19, while 54 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Sunday. She added that 56 patients, who were on COVID-19 treatment in the state, tested negative today.

With this, the total number of patients recovered amounts to 1,101.

“A total of 27 patients from Palakkad district, seven from Thrissur district, five from Malappuram district, three each from Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts, two each from Kottayam, Idukki and Kannur districts and one from the districts of Wayanad and Kasaragod are the ones who tested negative after treatment, “she said.

She further stated that the state had reported 54 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the total number of active cases to 1,340.

“Of these, 23 people returned from overseas (United Arab Emirates 13, Saudi Arabia 5, Nigeria 3 and Kuwait 2) and 25 from other states (Maharashtra 13, Tamil Nadu 9, Karnataka 1, Delhi 1 and Haryana 1). Three people were infected through primary contact, two in Thrissur district and one in Malappuram district. Apart from that, three health workers were also infected, two from Thrissur district and one from Thiruvananthapuram district, “she added.

The minister said a total of 2.42,767 people are under observation in various districts of the state. Of this number, 2,40,744 are under surveillance at home or in institutional quarantine and 2,023 are isolated in hospitals.
