The southwest monsoon is expected to hit Odisha in the next three days and the low pressure area formed on the Bay of Bengal will facilitate its advancement, the Bhubaneswar weather center announced on Tuesday.
Conditions are now becoming favorable for the continuation of the southwest monsoon movement towards Odisha and surrounding areas, said HR Biswas, director of the Bhubaneswar Weather Center.
“In all probability, the monsoon should hit Odisha within three days. It should enter parts of Odisha on June 11 or 12,” Biswas told PTI news agency, adding that the rains in monsoons are expected to hit the south and east of the country. parts of the state first before advancing to other regions.
In addition, a low pressure area has already formed in the eastern center of the Bay of Bengal, which is linked to the movement of the southwest monsoon in the region, he said.
In addition to triggering heavy rains in several parts of Odisha, particularly in the southern region of the state, the low pressure should also facilitate subsequent movements of the southwest monsoon, said Biswas.
The low pressure is likely to move west-northwest and become more pronounced over the next 24 hours.
Under its impact, light to moderate rain is expected to hit most places in Odisha with isolated heavy to very heavy rain over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Khurda, Koraput and Nabarangapur on June 10, MeT said Center.
It will also improve rainfall activity on the interior parts of Odisha over the next two days.
The MeT center also forecast thunderstorms, lightning and heavy precipitation in several parts of the state until June 12.
As the state of the sea is expected to remain difficult, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea between Wednesday and Friday. Those on the high seas were asked to return to the coast immediately.
