Bombay:

The southwest monsoon will become active in coastal areas of Maharashtra again on August 10 (Monday) and will remain so for the next seven days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) announced today.

Heavy rains hit Mumbai and neighboring neighborhoods on Wednesday, causing water overflows and traffic jams, wreaking havoc in the city. The intensity of the rain has gradually diminished over the past two days.

“IMD observations have revealed that the southwest monsoon is likely to become active on the west coast from August 10-11, including in Mumbai. The situation is expected to last for a week, ”said KS Hosalikar, deputy general manager of the IMD center in Mumbai.

The Colaba Observatory in southern Mumbai had recorded 330mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 5.30am Thursday, while the Santacruz Weather Station in the western suburbs recorded 146mm during the period.
