Actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who was admitted to the Belle Vue clinic in Calcutta on October 6, is “critical,” the doctor in charge of the actor’s medical treatment said on Saturday. A 4:30 p.m. medical bulletin on Saturday said that “the veteran actor’s state of health is serious” and is “really critical”. Soumitra Chatterjee is 85 years old. The Belle Vue Clinic doctor said: “Mr. Chatterjee is on multiple life support systems. A 40-day fight is not enough to cure him. It takes a miracle.” Soumitra Chatterjee was rushed to hospital on October 6, just a day after testing positive for COVID-19. The actor tested negative shortly after a week on October 14 but remained admitted due to health complications.
Days after Mr Chatterjee tested negative, doctors said he was recovering and would be able to walk in a few days. However, on October 25, Dr Arindam Kar, who heads the medical team treating Mr Chatterjee, said: “You all know he is not keeping up well. His consciousness, despite our best efforts, is not improving. not. She rather went down. “
During the last week of October, Mr. Chatterjee underwent dialysis which “managed to stabilize some of his parameters”. During the first week of November, doctors said in a medical bulletin: “We may consider having a tracheostomy.”
Soumitra Chatterjee, Bengal’s most famous actor, is best known for his many collaborations with filmmaker Satyajit Ray – they have made 14 films together. Soumitra Chatterjee has also been directed by other greats in Bengali cinema, including Mrinal Sen in Akash Kusum, and his last big screen release was Sanjhbati in 2019.
Soumitra Chatterjee’s long list of awards and accolades includes the Padma Bhushan and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Tagore Ratna. He received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award – the highest honor in Indian cinema – in 2012. Mr. Chatterjee has won three national awards for his performances in films Antardhan, Dekha and Padokkhep. In 2018, he received the Legion of Honor of France, the country’s highest civilian honor. In 1989, Satyajit Ray had also received the same award.
