Sanjay Leela Bhansali recorded a statement at the Bandra police station.

Mumbai:

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali today reached the Bandra police station to record his statement about the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput last month.

Bhansali, according to the PTI news agency, had offered films to Sushant Singh Rajput but they could not work together due to date problems.

Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was found dead at his Bandra home on June 14. Police said it was a suicide death

The Maharashtra government has ordered an investigation into allegations that the actor was upset about losing film projects due to cliques and patronage in the Hindi film industry, as well as apparently suffering from clinical depression.

Death rocked the movie fraternity and led to a deluge of recriminations and celebrity mea culpas. Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur was among those whose posts drew attention to the actor’s troubles.

“I knew the pain you were going through. I knew the story of the people who let you down so badly that you would cry on my shoulder. I wish I was around the past 6 months. I wish you would have contacted you. What happened to you was their Karma. Not yours, “he tweeted.

So far, police have recorded statements from 28 people, including Sanjana Sanghi who starred in his latest film “Dil Bechara”, which comes out this month. Director Mukesh Chhabra, a close friend of Sushant Singh Rajput, has already recorded his statement in the case.

Sushant Singh Rajput, who debuted with the critically acclaimed 2013 film “Kai Po Che”, had worked in two Yash Raj banner films – “Shuddh Desi Romance” and “Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!”. His third film, “Paani”, directed by Shekhar Kapur, has been abandoned; the production company is said to have backed down, PTI news agency reported. The police took a copy of his contract with Yash Raj Films for their investigations.
