Anil Kapoor, hours after the funeral of S P Balasubrahmanyam, shared a moving tribute to the iconic singer, remembering his “magical voice”. Anil Kapoor, who worked with S P Balasubrahmanyam early in his acting career, wrote: “S P Balasubramanyam’s magical voice has made so many careers of top men and I am one of them. S P Balasubrahmanyam was the voice of Anil Kapoor in both songs Naguva Nayana and O Premi O Premi in the 1983 movie Kannada Pallavi Anu Pallavi. The film marked Anil Kapoor’s debut in Kannada – SPB had already won two of his six national awards by them. Music maestro Ilaiyaraaja was the composer of the film, who worked extensively with SPB. S P Balasubrahmanyam’s vast legacy includes more than 40,000 songs in over 16 languages.

In his tweet, Anil Kapoor added, “I still can’t forget he’s gone but his songs will live on forever … a tribute to the magic of S P Balasubramanyam and Ilaiyaraaja.” He also shared the song Naguva Nayana in his tweet.

After the death of S P Balasubrahmanyam on Friday, Anil Kapoor recalled that the legendary singer doubled for him on his Telugu debut in 1980Vamsa Vruksham: “Great human being and amazing singer … Lucky to have had it dubbed for me … give voice to my performances in my first film Telugu and Kannada. SP Balasubrahmanyam will be truly missed … my deepest condolences and prayers to the family, ”he wrote.

S P Balasubrahmanyam was admitted to Chennai MGM Healthcare Hospital for COVID-19 on August 5, as Anil Kapoor was among them who wished him a speedy recovery.

S P Balasubrahmanyam tested negative after a few weeks but continued to remain on a ventilator. A day before his death, the hospital announced he was being put on maximum life support. He died at the age of 74 on Friday afternoon. On Saturday, the funeral of P.S. Balasubrahmanyam was held at his farm in Red Hills in the Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu, about 50 km from Chennai, with full police honors.
