The Supreme Court will hear a petition on June 2 which asked the center for a directive to amend the constitution and replace the word India with “Bharat”, saying it “will instill pride in our nationality”.
The Namah motion was previously scheduled to be heard on May 29, but was adjourned because the Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde was not available. The case is now scheduled to be heard by a bench led by Justice AS Bopanna on June 2.
The object was to obtain instructions to replace the word “India” with “Bharat”.
“Stop using INDIA, this will guarantee the citizens of this country to overcome the colonial past and will arouse a sense of pride in our nationality. It will also justify the hard fought freedom of our freedom fighters,” the petition said.
