India confirmed on Thursday that it was working to free those kidnapped in Libya

Tunis, Tunisia:

The seven Indian nationals, who were kidnapped in Libya, have been released, the Indian ambassador to Tunisia said.

The seven men from Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh were kidnapped in Asshwerif in Libya on September 14.

The Indian envoy to Tunisia, Puneet Roy Kundal, confirmed the news of their release to ANI.

India does not have an embassy in Libya and the Indian mission in Tunisia ensures the welfare of Indians in Libya.

India on Thursday confirmed that seven of its nationals were kidnapped in Libya last month and that it was working for their release.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the kidnapped workers are safe and the Indian mission in Tunisia is in contact with the Libyan government to try to release them.

“Our Embassy in Tunisia, which deals with matters relating to the welfare of Indian nationals in Libya, has contacted the Libyan government authorities concerned, as well as the international organizations present there, to request their assistance in rescuing Indian nationals. . The employer was contacted by the kidnappers and shown photographs as proof that the Indian nationals were safe and healthy, ”MEA spokesman Anurag Srivastava said at his weekly press conference.

In September 2015, a notice was issued to Indian nationals to avoid going to Libya because of the security situation in that country.

Later, in May 2016, the government imposed a total travel ban for any purpose, given the dire security situation. This travel ban is still in effect.
