Manmohan Singh expressed his condolences on the death of Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday expressed his condolences on the death of Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, saying he was an effective administrator who was a prominent Dalit face in the central government of many parties.

In his condolence letter to Ram Vilas Paswan’s son, Chirag Paswan, who is MP for Jamui in Bihar and leader of the Lok Janshakti (LJP) party, the former prime minister said: “I learned with deep sadness the distant passing of your beloved father. He was an important face of Dalit leader in the central government of many parties. “

Recalling his time with Ram Vilas Paswan from 2004 to 2014, Mr. Singh said: “I remember very warmly my association with him as a member of the UPA government that I led in 2004. The veteran socialist leader was also a very efficient administrator. who worked very closely with me as Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers, and also served as Minister in various ministries. “

The veteran congressional leader said Ram Vilas Paswan was a mass leader with great popularity, which was evident from the fact that he had won the parliamentary elections with a record majority in his constituency. “He was also a leader who was loved and respected by all, regardless of their political leniency. Upon his death, the country lost one of its greatest Dalit and socialist leaders, who always championed the cause of the poor and of the oppressed of poverty, “he said.

Earlier today, Mr Paswan’s body was taken to his New Delhi residence from the Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where he took his last breath on Thursday. The Union Minister, originally from Bihar, has died at the age of 74.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President JP Nadda and several senior leaders paid tribute to the late leader at his residence in the nation’s capital.
