Couriers are responsible for delivering documents of a sensitive nature to the entire rail network.

New Delhi:

The Railways decided to end a British-era practice of sending confidential documents via personal messengers or Daks and ordered areas to switch to videoconference communication.

This is the latest in a series of instructions for zonal railways to reduce costs.

“In order to reduce costs and improve savings on establishment expenses, the Council wanted all discussions between officials of the Railways PSU / Railways Council to invariably take place by video conference, so the personal messenger / Dak messenger reservation should be terminated immediately. “

“Compliance with the above must be ensured, as this would lead to significant savings in allowances, stationery, faxes, etc.”, specifies the ordinance of July 24 to the zones.

These dak messengers are usually identified persons responsible for transporting files, documents of a sensitive nature through the railway network – from the Railway Commission to its various departments, to its areas and divisions. This was introduced by the British when there was no internet or email.

Previously, the Railways had called for the freezing of the creation of new positions, the rationalization of staff in the workshops, the transfer of outsourced work to CSR, the shift of ceremonial functions to digital platforms.

He also advised zones to contain expenses by reducing personnel costs, rationalizing personnel and also making them multitask.

He further asked the zones to review contracts, reduce energy consumption and reduce costs in administrative and other areas.

The railroads also called for all files to be moved to the digital sphere and said all correspondence should be done via secure email and asked them to reduce the use of items from at least 50%. stationery, cartridges and other items.

He asked the zones to review and close all unprofitable branches of the ministry.

While most communications from officials are currently via email, Dak messengers are as good as they are outdated, officials say. With the last direction, their use has officially ended.
