New Delhi:
Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi will not celebrate his 50th birthday this Friday due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the deaths of 20 soldiers deadlocked with China in the Galwan Valley of Ladakh, des sources close to him told me.
The party also asked its state and district units not to organize a birthday party.
Sources said that the Secretary General (organization) of the Congress Committee of India, KC Venugopal, had asked all state party units not to organize celebration activities due to the COVID crisis -19 and the death of the soldiers.
However, he suggested that party members should intensify their efforts to provide support and relief to all those who are suffering.
Venugopal suggested that the distribution of food kits in needy and community kitchens for the poor could be organized to relieve the pain and suffering of people during this difficult time.
He asked state and district party units to remain silent and to hold prayers for two minutes in memory of the valiant soldiers who put their lives to protect the homeland, sources said.
They said the National Union of Students of India, the student wing of Congress, would organize blood donation camps across the country on Friday and provide cash incentives to the poor hardest hit by the pandemic.
