Congress chief Rahul Gandhi renewed his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday over the coronavirus epidemic that has affected more than five lakh people in the country. The government has no plans to end the pandemic and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has “surrendered” because he refuses to fight the coronavirus, Gandhi tweeted today.
“COVID-19 is rapidly spreading to new parts of the country. The Indian government does not intend to defeat it. The PM is silent. He has surrendered and refuses to fight the pandemic,” he said. he tweeted by attaching a report from The Print, which claimed that neither the government nor the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), the nodal organism in the fight against the coronavirus, had not held a meeting for more than two weeks.
The last meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM), chaired by the Union’s Minister of Health, Dr Harsh Vardhan, was held on June 9, The Print reports, adding that the ICMR last met more than two weeks ago.
The leader of Congress has targeted the government in almost daily messages about his handling of the virus crisis. In one of the articles, Mr. Gandhi quoted Einstein as saying: “The only thing more dangerous than ignorance is arrogance”.
Mr. Gandhi’s last attack occurred on a day when the COVID-19 count in India exceeded five lakh with the largest increase in a day of 18,552 cases. It only took 149 days to cross the five lakh mark; infections had crossed the four lakh figure six days ago.
The total number of victims of the virus has crossed the 15,000 mark, with 384 deaths from COVID-19 reported in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases was 1,987,387, while 2,95880 people recovered and one patient migrated, according to the figure updated at 8 a.m.
According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 79.96.707 samples were tested until June 26, with 2.20.479 samples tested on Friday, the highest in a day since the start of the pandemic.
Gandhi has attacked the government since a national blockade was announced in March to break the chain of transmission.
Congressman from Wayanad, Kerala, has also had weekly interviews with experts in the past two months about the repercussions of the blockage and its impact on the economy, which has been hit hard by the pandemic.
India has the fourth highest number of coronavirus cases among the 10 countries most affected by coronavirus. The coronavirus pandemic has killed more than 4.89 lakh people worldwide since its first detection in China last December. More than 96.04 lakh people have been infected with the highly contagious virus worldwide.
