New Delhi:

On Friday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi praised the defense forces for their courage in protecting the country and defeating Pakistan’s plans.

His remarks came after Pakistan resorted to ceasefire violations at the border by unprovoked fire along the Line of Control (LoC) from Gurez towards the Uri areas of Jammu-et -Kashmir Friday in which four members of the security forces were killed.

“Every time Pakistan engages in ceasefire violation, its fears and weaknesses become even clearer. Away from their families even during the festival, Indian army soldiers protect our country and demolish Pakistan’s disgusting plans. I salute all the soldiers in the army. Mr. Gandhi said in a Hindi tweet.

Four members of the security forces were among 11 people killed in multiple ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops along the LoC, from areas of Gurez to Uri in Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday.

Srinagar-based defense spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said Pakistan was using mortars and other weapons and deliberately targeting civilian areas.

The troops retaliated, causing heavy casualties and significant damage to the Pakistani army’s infrastructure across the LoC, he said.
