Queen paid tribute to Tom Moore during investiture at Windsor Castle (File)

Windsor, England:

Queen Elizabeth II knighted Captain Tom Moore on Friday, recognizing the centennial for boosting the nation’s spirits during the gloom of the new coronavirus epidemic by raising more than $ 40 million for health workers.

The Second World War veteran raised a record $ 33 million ($ 41 million) by scrambling through 100 towers of his garden in April before his birthday.

The Queen honored Moore during an investiture at Windsor Castle, using her knight’s sword.

With depreciating humor, the Yorkshireman has become a symbol of British endurance in the face of the adversity of the coronavirus crisis.

Moore, who served in India, Burma and Sumatra during World War II, joked earlier this year that having a chivalry would be funny because he would be Sir Thomas Moore – a reference to the statesman Tudor Sir Thomas More.
