The administration in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, launched a crackdown on a scam that came to light after several alleged “beneficiaries” of a program under the National Rural Health Mission – all women in their sixties – were reported in the registers as having given birth. to several children in a matter of months, a senior official said.

Muzaffarpur District Magistrate, Chandrashekhar Singh, dismissed the relevant official from the Musahari bloc where the gross irregularities were exposed earlier this month.

“The charges against official Awadhesh Kumar were held true in an investigation we ordered. His services were terminated. A team was also assembled to examine how things were in other blocks in the district and submit a report. within a week for further action, ”Singh said.

The case came to light nearly two weeks ago when the blocks responsible for primary health care filed an FIR at the relevant police station regarding irregularities in the payment of benefits under the Janani Suraksha Yojana, a program managed under the National Rural Health Mission.

Records showed that many of the alleged “beneficiaries” were in their 60s and reportedly given birth more than half a dozen times in the space of about a year.
