For the first time since its establishment on June 21, 2015, coinciding with the summer solstice each year, Yoga Day will go digital. The theme for this year is “Yoga at Home and Yoga for Families”.

Prime Minister Modi will address the nation at 6:40 a.m. and national broadcaster Doordarshan will begin the day’s special program at 6:15 a.m., government sources said.

“Due to the current global health emergency due to the COVID-19 epidemic this year, the focus is less on these celebrations and more on people practicing yoga in their respective homes with the participation of all family, “said the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy or AYUSH said.

Prime Minister Modi on Thursday urged people to watch the day from the confines of their homes in a video message due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is why at present only strong immunity can act as a protective shield or bodyguard for us and our family. members … yoga is our trusted friend in building this protective (immunity) shield, “he said.

As was the practice in the International Yoga Day observations, the Prime Minister’s message will be followed by a live demonstration of a 45-minute Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) by a team from the National Institute of Morarji Desai yoga.

The CYP exercise was designed with people of different age groups and backgrounds in mind, the ministry said in its statement.

“Yoga is particularly relevant in the pandemic situation, because its practice leads to both physical and mental well-being and increases the individual’s ability to fight against diseases,” he said.

Yoga programs are organized annually around the world by Indian missions, but this year will be different. Several missions organize digital events to mark the occasion.

Thousands of yoga enthusiasts in Texas and neighboring U.S. states are all set to roll out their mats in the safety of their homes with famed yoga guru Baba Ramdev live to mark International Yoga Day, the agency reported. press release.
