Prithviraj Chavan of Congress said there were divergent views on the Galwan Valley incident

Mumbai:

Congress president Prithviraj Chavan hit Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, saying that his remark that “no one has intruded on Indian territory” made him popular in China.

Addressing a press conference, the former chief minister of Maharashtra said, however, that Prime Minister Modi’s remark “no intrusion” had demoralized the Indian armed forces. Twenty soldiers sacrificed their lives for India after a violent confrontation with Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh earlier this month.

Prime Minister Modi said at a multi-stakeholder meeting last week that no one was on Indian soil and that no Indian posts had been captured. Referring to Prime Minister Modi’s comments, Chavan said: “China congratulated the Indian Prime Minister on his statement and he has become popular in this country.”

“We are concerned about the Chinese intrusion into the Galwan valley and are proud of our jawans stationed at the borders. Protecting the borders and preventing intrusions is the main responsibility of the government. Congress raised this issue but the government had it neglected, “he said.

Chavan alleged that there were divergent opinions on the Galwan Valley incident even within government. “The Minister of Foreign Affairs admitted the presence of Chinese soldiers and construction activities along the Indian side of the effective line of control (LAC). But at the multi-stakeholder meeting, Modi said there were no no intrusion, “said Chavan.

He said former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh asked Prime Minister Modi not to say anything that would give strength to China.

“He said it was the opposition’s duty to question the government when the country is facing a crisis and that the government should respond adequately,” said Chavan.

The head of the congress said that according to satellite images, Chinese soldiers were building tents on Indian territory. “Army vehicles and bulldozers are visible in satellite images. There are 10,000 Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley. We want to know how many times China has entered the Galwan Valley and why Modi said there was no intrusion? Has India’s bargaining power diminished as a result of these comments? “said Mr. Chavan.
