New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today underscored the importance of self-sufficiency in solar energy amidst trade tensions with China – a large exporting country – as he inaugurated a huge 750-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Madhya Pradesh.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, whose vast urban rail network depends on reliable electricity, is a client of the solar project in the northeast of the Rewa of Madhya Pradesh, built with an investment of Rs 4,500 crore.
“We have to work to reduce our dependence on solar panels and related equipment. We have to speed up our production capacity for solar modules … and the solar batteries have to be made in India. We have to speed up all the work in these areas, “said PM Modi. said during the virtual launch of the project.
Prime Minister Modi’s comments today were taken as an affirmation of India’s determination to reduce imports of solar equipment from China amidst tension along the real line of control and cons – resulting commercial attacks.
On July 4, Minister of Energy RK Singh said Chinese companies are dumping cheap solar equipment in India and want to significantly increase tariffs on solar modules and cells. On the same day, the center announced that India would no longer import electrical equipment from China and Pakistan.
Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel connected from Lucknow and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of Bhopal during the launch of the project which has three solar power production units of 250 MW each on 500 hectares, covering the total power at 750 MW over 1,500 hectares.
