Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the chief of the Birsa Munda tribe on Sunday on his birthday and said his contribution to the freedom movement and social harmony will always inspire compatriots.
In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi said Birsa Munda is a real messiah for the poor and always fights for the poor and disadvantaged sections of society.
Born in 1875 in present-day Jharkhand, Birsa Munda had challenged British rule and is credited with the mobilization of the tribes against the empire. He died in British custody at a young age of 25.
Jharkhand State officially came into being on Birsa Munda’s birthday in 2000. Prime Minister Modi also greeted the people of the state on the day of its founding and wished them happiness, prosperity and healthy.
