London:

The car carrying British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was hit from behind in central London on Wednesday after taking protective measures when a pro-Kurdish protester ran on the road.

The protester was arrested and detained, according to an AFP journalist at the scene, after running to Johnson’s Jaguar while he was leaving under police escort from the Houses of Parliament.

A video posted showed that the car had braked before being struck by the next vehicle in the convoy, causing a large bump, while the police tackled the protester on the ground.

The Downing Street office in Johnson confirmed that it was the Prime Minister’s car and no injuries were reported.

The protester is said to have demonstrated over Turkish action against the Kurdish rebels.

Metropolitan police confirmed the collision, which occurred around 2.30 p.m. (1.30 p.m. GMT) on Parliament Square.

“The police vehicles were part of a security movement,” he said in a statement.

“A pedestrian allegedly entered the road, causing the vehicles to suddenly stop, which resulted in two of the convoy’s vehicles colliding without damage.”

No injuries were reported and a man was arrested at the scene, suspected of a breach of public order and obstructing the highway, added the force.

“All of the vehicles were able to leave,” said the statement.
