President Donald Trump said on Friday that he had spoken with the family of George Floyd, the African-American man who died while a police officer knelt on his neck during an arrest, triggering riots.
“I have talked to family members, great people,” Trump said at the White House.
Trump has been criticized for his earlier comments on Twitter that called the protesters in Minneapolis “THUGS” and warning that “When looting begins, filming begins.”
In his latest comments, Trump said he supports peaceful protests, but said: “We cannot allow a situation like the one that occurred in Minneapolis to sink further into anarchy and chaos anarchic “.
