Mumbai:
Eighteen of the approximately 100 coronavirus-positive children admitted to Wadia Hospital in Mumbai showed symptoms of multisystem pediatric inflammatory syndrome, a disease like Kawasaki disease, in a major cause of concern for doctors. The disease, first discovered by Japanese pediatrician Tomisku Kawasaki, causes fever, rashes, redness of the eyes, fatigue and diarrhea and can be fatal if left untreated.
According to reports, two children have died after being grieved by PMIS in Mumbai.
“Two children have died. One had COVID-19 with cancer. And one of the children who came to see us was in very serious condition. They had the disease for two weeks, then the patient was referred to us. The patient had to be put on a ventilator and died within six hours because we didn’t have much time with her. Four are recovering and the rest are leaving the hospital, “Wadia Children’s Hospital medical director Dr Shakuntala Prabhu told GalacticGaming.
Dr Amish Vora, a pediatrician at SRCC Children’s Hospital and secretary of the Critical Care Society, shed light on some features of the disease.
“There is a fever for about two to three days with abdominal pain, loose movements. 100% of patients have fever, 80% loose movements and vomiting, 60% of children have red eyes and ‘others have blisters during the month and rashes on the We need to watch this carefully and if you see these symptoms see a doctor immediately. We are reporting such cases every other day and about 100 of these children have been admitted. in large government hospitals and hospitals in Wadia, ”he said.
Ravindra Borkar, a resident of Mumbai, said her ten-year-old niece had PMIS. He said it took a long time for the doctors to diagnose what was wrong with her.
“My brother has a 10 year old daughter. The doctor in my area had discussed malaria and typhoid. We struggled for days. Then we got here and the doctor said her BP was going down and she was less than 70 years old. Then the treatment started. and an IVIG injection was given which helped her recover, but she is still in the isolation ward, ”he said.
The disease is usually seen in children under the age of five, but it is worrying that PMIS in India is seen in children aged 10 months to 15 years.
Doctors have researched these cases and the ICMR is informed of their results. They say these cases have been reported in Mumbai since June. Such cases have also been reported in Chennai, Delhi and Jaipur.
