At least 10 people died in lightning strikes in four districts of Bihar on Tuesday, an official from the disaster management department said.

Banka district claimed four lives, while three died in Nalanda, two in Jamui and one in Nawada, the official said.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief over the death and ordered officials to pay Rs 4 lakh gratis to each victim’s next family member, according to an official statement.

Mr Kumar called on people to stay indoors as much as possible in bad weather conditions.

More than 180 people have died from lightning strikes across the state in the past month. Among them, 83 people in 23 districts lost their lives in a single day on June 25.
