Prime Minister Narendra Modi met on Tuesday with US President-elect Joe Biden to congratulate him on his victory and reiterate India’s firm commitment to its strategic partnership with the United States. The Prime Minister also congratulated Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and said her success was a matter of pride for the Indo-American community.
“We spoke by phone with US President-elect Joe Biden to congratulate him. We reiterated our strong commitment to the Indo-American strategic partnership and discussed our common priorities and concerns – the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and cooperation in India Pacific region, ”the Prime Minister tweeted at around midnight on Tuesday.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Modi joined other world leaders, including the Prime Ministers of Canada and the United Kingdom, as well as French President Emmanuel Macron, in tweeting to congratulate Mr. Biden on ‘have become the 46th President of the United States.

In addition to working together to fight terrorism and climate change, defeat the coronavirus pandemic and restart the global economy, Mr Biden is expected to broadly support India’s bid to become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. .
According to a policy document released during the election, the president-elect believes that “no common global challenge can be solved without India and the United States working as responsible partners.” The document also presents plans for collaboration with India on combating terrorism and climate change.
Joseph Biden, 77, defeated Donald Trump, 74, in a hotly contested presidential election that drew a record number of American voters. Mr. Biden collected 306 electoral college votes (he needed 270 to win) against Mr. Trump’s 232 and polled nearly 79 lakh votes against Mr. Trump’s 73.2 lakh.
Mr. Trump has since slammed social media with unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud and counting errors. Several of his tweets have since been flagged by Twitter as “disputed.”
