Srinagar:
A civilian was killed and another injured on Friday as Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kamalkote area of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
Pakistani troops fired mortars and other weapons, they said.
The injured civilian was rushed to a medical facility for treatment, they added.
Officials said that apart from Kamalkote sector in Uri, ceasefire violations were reported in two other locations – Izmarg in Gurez sector of Bandipora district and Keran sector of Kupwara district. .
A defense spokesperson also said the military foiled an infiltration offer, aided by the ceasefire violation, along the LoC in the Keran sector.
“Suspicious movements were observed today by the troops’ own at outposts along the LoC in the Keran sector (in the Kupwara district of North Kashmir). The alleged infiltration attempt was foiled by alert troops, ”said Srinagar-based defense spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia.
He said the offer of infiltration was accompanied by the initiation of a non-Pakistan-provoked ceasefire violation (CFV).
“They fired mortars and other weapons. A dignified response is being given,” Col Kalia said.
The defense spokesman said the ceasefire violation had spread to larger areas, from Keran to Uri sectors.
It was the second infiltration attempt in a week. The first unsuccessful infiltration attempt in the Machil sector during the night of November 7-8 was foiled and three militants were killed.
Three army soldiers, including a captain, and a BSF jawan were also killed in the operation.
“The Indian military is well placed to defeat all attempts by Pakistan to infiltrate terrorists into the J-K,” the spokesperson said.
