New Delhi:

Border security deputy inspector killed as jawan injured in ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday , officials said.

They said SI Rakesh Doval deployed to the BSF artillery battery at LoC in Baramulla was killed after being wounded in the head during the shooting around 1315 hours.

Another jawan, Constable Vasu Raja, was injured by shrapnel on his arms and cheeks. It was deployed at the same forward defended location, they said.

The gendarme is stable, officials said.

“The sub-inspector made the ultimate sacrifice in the performance of his duties while facing a violent ceasefire violation by the enemy. The non-commissioned officer was a resident of Uttarakhand,” said they declared.

“Ceasefire violation shots are still ongoing and the BSF is responding effectively,” said a senior BSF official.
