Coronavirus live updates: India reported another record-breaking increase in coronavirus cases on Saturday morning with 57,118 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 1,695,988. The country was also witnessed 764 COVID-19-related deaths in the past 24 hours, the Union’s health ministry said.

The total number of deaths from the virus now stands at 36,511. The country’s Covid toll crossed the 16 lakh mark on Friday, just three days after crossing 15 lakh infections. More than 10.94 lakh patients have recovered; the recovery rate was 64.52% on Saturday.

India has tested a total of 1,939.58,659 samples to date. The positivity rate – the percentage of patients who tested positive for the coronavirus – stood at 8.57%.

West Bengal daily rise in COVID-19 cases crosses 2,500 mark, record 48 new deaths

West Bengal reported its highest single-day COVID-19 death rate on Saturday, 48 deaths, even as the daily increase in cases crossed the 2,500 mark for the first time, according to a bulletin released by the state health department.

The state has detected 2,589 new cases, bringing the total to 72,777, he said.

The number rose to 1,629 with the new deaths, he added.

Among the new deaths, the city had the highest 19 deaths, followed by 13 in the districts of North 24 Parganas, six in Howrah, two in South 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur and Uttar Dinajpur, and one in the districts of Hooghly, Nadia, Murshidabad and Jalpaiguri. .
