Coronavirus live updates: India reported another record-breaking increase in coronavirus cases on Saturday morning with 57,118 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 1,695,988. West Bengal reported its highest single-day COVID-19 death rate on Saturday, 48 deaths, even as the daily increase in cases crossed the 2,500 mark for the first time, according to a bulletin released by the state health department.
The state has detected 2,589 new cases, bringing the total to 72,777, he said.
The number rose to 1,629 with the new deaths, he added.
