India’s COVID-19 tally broke the 17 lakh mark on Sunday with an increase of 54,735 cases in the past 24 hours, according to data from the Union Health Ministry. The country now has 17 50,723 cases of the virus.
India has only taken 185 days since the first case in Kerala in January this year.
With 823 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, the death toll has risen to 37,364, the government said. India has maintained a low death rate for COVID-19 patients, which currently stands at 2.15%. “There are fewer active cases on ventilators,” the Union’s health ministry said in a statement. As of July 31, only 0.22% of active cases were on respirators across the country, he said.
