Rourkela:

On Friday, a police station in charge in the Odisha district of Sundargarh was suspended for alleged participation in the abortion of a minor girl, who was allegedly gang-raped for more than two months.

The chief inspector of the Biramitrapur police station, Anand Chandra Majhi, was placed on suspension with immediate effect, said DIG (Western Range) Kavita Jalan.

The 13-year-old said that she had been the victim of a gang and urged the Child Protection Committee (CWC) to investigate, police said.

A case was registered on June 22 at the Raibaga police station after the intervention of the district collector, who also instructed the SP to carry out an investigation, they said.

Up to six people – the IIC, another member of the police, the doctor who performed the abortion at a community health center, the girl’s stepfather and two others – were appointed to the FIR.

SP Sundergarh, Soumya Mishra, investigated the incident on June 24 and reported its findings to the district collector.

“The culprits will never be allowed to free themselves from the Scots,” she said.
