Odisha School team selected for NASA human exploration challenge

Bhubaneswar:

Navonmesh Prasar’s Student Astronomy Team (NaPSAT), made up of 10 students, has been selected to participate in NASA’s 2021 Human Exploration Challenge, scheduled for April.

NaPSAT, an initiative of the Navonmesh Prasar Foundation, based in Bhubaneswar, is an interdisciplinary team of space enthusiasts engaged in projects ranging from the design of space systems, rovers, rockets, satellites and astronomy to participating at various international events.

Anil Pradhan, Founder of the Navonmesh Prasar Foundation, said that for the first time an Indian school team has been selected for this challenge.

“This is the first time that an Indian school team has been selected to participate in the NASA Human Exploration Challenge. We created a team during the COVID period and identified 10 Odisha students. We provided them with training and later applied for the NASA Rover Challenge. The interdisciplinary team includes students from schools as well as ITI students. They are making a rover that can move on the surface of Mars and it would be a human-powered rover, ”Pradhan told ANI.

“We have received the invitation from NASA and the event will take place in April 2021. We are preparing a rover and we will send it to NASA. We will go there and compete with other teams. We also collect some fund, ”he said.

Tanvi Mallick, a class 9 student, who is part of the team, said: “I was familiar with NaPSAT. I decided to try for it and I was also selected. We were selected for NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge 2021. We are Odisha’s first team to be selected and India’s first high school team. We will be going to Alabama in April 2021 and representing India in this competition. “
