Jaipur:

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was invited to appear for questioning into an investigation into allegations of a conspiracy to overthrow the government of Rajasthan. Mr. Shekhawat, a senior BJP official, denied the allegations.

Last week, Congress alleged that rebel MPs from the high-level dissident Sachin Pilot camp were plotting with the BJP against the Ashok Gehlot government. Two FIRs were tabled soon after the allegations were published by Congress, one referring to “Gajendra Singh”.

The party published transcripts of audio streams online, and claimed that they had voices from the Union minister and rebel MP Bhanwar Lal Sharma, who allegedly discussed bribes.
“I am ready to face any investigation. The audio does not have my voice. If I am called in for questioning, I will definitely go,” said Union Minister for “Jal Shakti” Shekhawat. “.

A businessman named Sanjay Jain, also charged with FIR, was arrested on Friday. The BJP has denied any ties to him, as Congress claims.

The BJP has accused Congress of trying to slander its leaders and blame others for its internal crisis. The party also called for an CBI investigation, alleging that the Rajasthan Congressional government had wiretapped phones illegally.

Mr. Gehlot ordered the Rajasthan Police Special Operation Group (SOG) to investigate the tapes. The police team traveled to Manesar, near Delhi, to locate a rebel MP who was allegedly heard on the audio tapes, but found no one in the two resorts where the Pilot team stayed.

Gehlot alleges that Pilot is involved in a plot to dislodge his government and that he is actively supported by the BJP, which took power in Madhya Pradesh in March after Jyotiraditya Scindia left Congress, carrying 22 deputies and bringing down the Kamal Nath Government.
