New Delhi:

India on Wednesday criticized China for calling the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir “illegal and invalid” and said Beijing had no locus standi on the issue.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Srivastava said China was invited not to comment on the internal affairs of other countries.

“We have taken note of the comments of the Chinese spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the territory of the Indian Union of Jammu and Kashmir. The Chinese side has no locus standi on this issue and it is advised not to not comment on the internal affairs of other nations, ”he said.

India’s reaction came hours after a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in Beijing that any unilateral change in Jammu and Kashmir’s status quo was illegal and invalid.

The Chinese spokesperson made the comments following a question from a Pakistani correspondent about the one-year completion of the revocation of special status in Jammu and Kashmir and its bifurcation into two Union territories – Jammu -and-Kashmir and Ladakh.
