Nepal said the government report cited to support this claim did not exist.

New Delhi:

Nepal has strongly denied media reports that China has taken control of its territory in several places with the support of the government of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The ANI news agency had said that China had illegally occupied Nepal’s land in several locations across seven bordering districts, citing a report by the Investigations Department of Nepal’s Ministry of Agriculture.

Nepalese government sources strongly refuted the report, saying the allegation first made by a leading media outlet in Nepal in June was also dismissed. The newspaper also apologized for the publication of the report.

In a statement at the time, Nepal’s Foreign Ministry said, “The news would be based on the ‘report’ from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development which this ministry has already refuted and clarified in stating that such a ‘report’ does not exist and that the subject is outside its competence. “

“We can remember that the border between Nepal and China was delimited and demarcated on the basis of the Border Treaty of October 5, 1961 and subsequent protocols signed between the two countries,” he said.

“Bollards Nos. 37 and 38 reported as missing in media reports were never erected as agreed between the two countries due to natural conditions,” the foreign ministry said.

“The Government of Nepal will resolve the problem through mutual consultation between the relevant authorities of the two countries in case a problem arises.” The Ministry asks the media to verify the information provided by the competent authorities before commenting on such delicate issues which could harm relations between the two friendly neighbors, ”he added.
