Hollywood star Johnny Depp confirmed on Friday that he would appeal a UK court ruling upholding claims he was violent towards his ex-wife Amber Heard.

“The surrealist judgment of the British court will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I intend to appeal, ”he wrote on Instagram in a dated London post.

Monday, the 57-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean The actor lost a libel lawsuit against the editors of the British tabloid The Sun, who called him a “wife beater”.

Judge Andrew Nicol rejected Depp’s claim after three weeks of revelations about the couple’s stormy relationship, saying the article had been “substantially true”.

Twelve of the 14 alleged incidents which the News Group Newspapers publishers said were true fell under the civil burden of proof, the balance of probabilities, he added.

Depp said in a typed and signed statement: “My resolve remains strong and I intend to prove the allegations against me to be false.”

The high-profile case in London’s High Court has revealed Depp’s struggles with drink and drugs as well as details of his two-year marriage to Heard, 34, an actress and a model.

The actor also announced that he has agreed to step down from his role as Gellert Grindelwald in the Harry Potter franchise spin-off. Fantastic beasts at the request of Warner Bros.

“I have respected and accepted this request,” he said. The US film studio has confirmed that Depp will be leaving the film.

“Johnny Depp will be leaving the Fantastic Beasts franchise. We thank Johnny for his work on the films to date,” the studio said in a statement.

Fantastic beasts 3 is currently in production and the role of Gellert Grindelwald will be recast. The film will debut in theaters around the world in the summer of 2022, ”he added.

The disputed Sun article had questioned Harry Potter author JK Rowling might be “really happy” that Depp had been cast into the Fantastic beasts films given his reputation as a female drummer.

Depp is also suing Heard in another U.S. case over an article she wrote in the Washington Post, which he said implied he was violent towards her.
