Mumbai police in their recent tweet issued a drug warning “meow meow”.

New Delhi:

Mumbai police, known for their witty and creative social media posts, created another such tweet. It is not just a message but a warning.

“The only ‘meow meow’ that is acceptable! #SayNoToDrugs,” tweeted Mumbai police with a photo of a cat.

“Meow meow” is the nickname for a street drug. Its scientific name is “mephedrone” and the drug produces effects similar to those triggered by cocaine. The physical manifestation of symptoms includes gnashing of teeth.

The proliferation of “meow meow” began around 2007, when it started to appear for sale on the Internet. Like other so-called synthetic drugs such as synthetic weeds, it was created as a way to get around the pre-existing bans of Schedule 1 drugs.

In India, October 2 is celebrated as National Addiction Day. Mahatma Gandhi also condemned the use of drugs.

Addiction causes chronic brain disease and can destroy everything – careers, family, loved ones, friends and civics.

Health professionals say that most people start taking medication for experience, pleasure, and curiosity, while some succumb to peer pressure. Some also abuse vital medicines like drugs.

Although drug addiction can be difficult to manage, recovery is very possible.
