Mumbai:
22-year-old man arrested in Nagpada, south Mumbai, for allegedly violating the foreclosure order and social distancing rules by celebrating his birthday on the local area with his friends and bursting with crackers , police said on Sunday.
The accused, Hammad Ansari, who claims to be a social worker, was arrested on Saturday after sharing a video of his birthday on social media, said a police official.
“Hammad Ansari celebrated his birthday with his friends on the night of Friday and Saturday in Madanpura. They erupted in firecrackers and Ansari cut a cake in the street,” said the official.
“By their actions, they violated the rules of social distancing and the locking order. In the video that Ansari posted on Facebook, he boasted about the way he celebrated the anniversary despite the restrictions,” said he added.
Nagpada police have registered a case against Hammad Ansari and three others under the relevant articles of the Indian Penal Code for disobedience of an order duly promulgated by an official, a negligent and malicious act likely to spread the infection of a dangerous disease for life, and the disaster management law, added the official.
Ansari was brought to the police station and placed under arrest. However, he was immediately allowed to surrender after receiving a notice, the official said, adding that his video had been removed from the social media platform.
