The man from Mumbai was allegedly duped for Rs 15 lakh.

Bombay:

A 40-year-old man from Mumbai was allegedly duped for Rs 15 lakh after being lured by fraudsters to become a “ male escort ” for women, police said Thursday.

Based on her complaint, the police filed a complaint against three people, including a woman, under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for cheating, a police official said.

The man, who worked as a tailor, told police she was drawn to the offer because his business unit was not performing well following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The accused, who was posing as employees of an escort agency, told the man that he would have to meet a new woman every day as part of his job and earn money, said declared the responsible.

The man was first asked to deposit a sum to register with the agency. He was then asked to pay more money under one guise or another on various occasions over the past three months.

However, he received no work in return and alleged that the accused had duped him for Rs 15 lakh, the official said.

Based on his complaint, a case was registered a few days ago against the three defendants under various sections of the IPC, including 420 (cheating) and the IT law, a- he said, adding that no arrests had been made so far.
