Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday reached out to scientists, professors and high-level professionals in the Congress-ruled Punjab’s agriculture sector to dispel doubts about the new agricultural laws, saying the reforms would even benefit “arthiyas“(commissionaires).

Arthiyas can provide better seeds, inputs, knowledge and supply chain assistance outside of their existing roles in the mandis, he said in a statement.
“The investments will drive changes throughout the supply chain to the benefit of all stakeholders to reduce agricultural waste which is currently 30 percent,” he added.
The minister was in contact with scientists, professors and other high-level professionals in the agricultural sector of Taran Taran and Amritsar in Punjab.
During his interaction, Mr. Puri also noted that there had been an increase in grain purchases from the MSP in Punjab.
Punjab has seen an unprecedented increase in purchases of kharif paddy which rose to 26.1 lakh ton through October 11 of the current Kharif marketing season, from 7.4 lakh ton a year ago, a he said.
