Coronavirus Live Updates: India recorded a record jump of 9,851 cases of coronavirus and 273 deaths on Friday, bringing the number of infections nationwide to 2,226,770 and the number of deaths to 6,348, according to the Ministry of Union health. There has been a case record for three consecutive days. In terms of cases, India crossed China – where the virus emerged late last year – for ninth place just a week ago.
The number of states with counts of four digits or more has doubled since May 1, when the center authorized the movement of migrant workers on special trains from large urban groups to their villages. Some of these states have seen their total increase by more than 10 times.
In its latest update on Friday morning, the Department of Health said that the number of confirmed cases had risen to 2,266,770 and the number of deaths had risen to 6,348. Figures from Johns Hopkins University around midnight showed India with 2.35,769 and Italy with 2.34.531. With 6,641 deaths, India is now ranked 12th among the most affected countries.
