Aizawl:

Given the resurgence of coronavirus cases in neighboring states and the return of stranded people, the Mizoram government will extend the ongoing lockout for another two weeks to limit the spread of the pandemic, the health minister said on Saturday. R Lalthangliana.

The government, however, has yet to issue the order and guidelines for the new lockout phase, he told PTI.

The Mizoram is now free of COVID-19 after its only patient, who tested positive on March 24, recovered and left the hospital on May 9.

“We will continue to be locked up for another two weeks, as Chief Minister Zoramthanga said to prevent the spread of the coronavirus as cases continue to increase in neighboring states and stranded migrants still return to Mizoram”, did he declare.

The Mizoram may need to be detained continuously for several times until all stranded residents have returned to the state, the minister said.

A meeting of ministers, senior officials and doctors was held on Saturday to examine the situation resulting from the spread of COVID-19.

The Minister of Health urged the population to strictly respect the standards of social distancing and to respect the other rules of containment defined by the government so that the State does not detect any new case.
