Maoists reportedly killed four villagers in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh after accusing them of being police informants, a senior official said on Saturday.
The killings took place over the past two days in the forest of Dumri-Palnar village below the Gangaloor police station area, Inspector General of Police (Bastar Beach) Sundarraj P.
According to preliminary information, the Maoists called a few villagers, who supported development activities, including road construction, into the forest and brutally killed four of them after accusing them of being police informants. , did he declare.
The dead were identified as Punem Sannu, Gore Sannu alias Dhruva and Aaytu alias Falli, all residents of Pusnar village and Bhusku alias Tulsi from nearby Metapal village, he said.
Naxals also beat up a few other villagers, the senior official said.
“However, it is not immediately clear whether the victims were killed altogether or at different times over the past two days,” he said.
After obtaining information about the incident on Saturday morning, a team of security forces rushed to the scene and further details are awaited, he added.
Over the past two months, the Bastar region has witnessed a spike in alleged atrocities committed by ultras on villagers.
On Friday night, Naxals killed two men after calling them police informants and also assaulted a group of people accompanying the duo as they traveled to a village in Bijapur in Dantewada district to finalize a plan of marriage.
Last month, 10 villagers, including women, were brutally beaten by Naxals in Chikpal village of Dantewada, while in a similar incident, in July, 25 villagers were beaten by Naxals in Parcheli village in Dantewada.
