Miami, United States:

A man has been arrested for pointing a gun at another shopper who asked him to wear a mask due to the coronavirus pandemic at a Walmart store in Florida, U.S. state police said.

Vincent Scavetta, 28, was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and improper exposure of a gun, the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office said.

“Welcome to PBC prison, my son. Let this be a lesson. It could have ended badly,” the office wrote on Twitter Thursday.

Scavetta had unsheathed the gun during a verbal argument over his refusal to wear a mask.

Walmart, the world‘s largest retailer, has been requiring everyone in its stores to wear face masks since July 20.

But many Americans still refuse to wear them, and for months President Donald Trump and his political allies have not encouraged their use.

However, Trump appeared to change direction earlier this week.

He tweeted a photo of himself wearing a mask with the message: “We are united in our efforts to defeat the invisible virus from China, and many people say it is patriotic to wear a face mask when you are not. can’t socially outrun. “

“There is no one more patriotic than me, your favorite president!”

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, a staunch Trump supporter, is facing a backlash for refusing to make the use of masks mandatory statewide. Some mayors have independently imposed such requirements in their cities.

Earlier this month in France, a bus driver died after being severely beaten by passengers after asking them to wear masks under coronavirus rules.
