Pune:

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar said on Friday that the Maharashtra government would present its position on the Maratha reservation to the Supreme Court.

“The state government is in favor of the Maratha reserve. The government will present its position on the issue to the Supreme Court,” the NCP chief said at a press conference.

Earlier this month, the court ordered that no quotas be granted to people from the Maratha community in education and jobs in the state this year and postponed the hearing on a plea package challenging the constitutional validity of a Maharashtra law granting the Maratha reserve in education. and jobs at a larger bench.

The bench ruled that no Maratha quota would be granted for jobs and admissions for the 2020-21 session and said admissions to postgraduate courses in the state would not be affected.

In the meantime, Mr Pawar condemned the Hathras incident and said: “The girl was murdered. Instead of handing over her body to her family, someone else cremated her without their consent. has never been seen anywhere in the country before. This is an example of just how badly the government and police in Uttar Pradesh behave in taking the laws into their own hands. “

He also criticized the Uttar Pradesh police for the arrest of congressional leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, on their way to meet the family of the alleged victim of Hathras.

“Rahul Gandhi went there, his associates went there, you don’t allow them to meet the family and you stop them halfway. This proves that you have no faith in the primary rights of the rule of law. Hence the reaction whatever it may be. across the country is okay, ”Pawar added.

The UP government had formed an SIT to investigate the incident and said the case would be heard by an expedited tribunal. The 19-year-old woman died at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on September 29. All four accused in the incident were arrested.
