Maharashtra BJP Vice President Chitra Wagh demanded on Sunday that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath take “strict action” against a policeman who held Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra by his clothes at the Delhi-UP border on its way to Hathras.
Chitra Wagh’s position drew support from congressional leaders who said she had not forgotten her “sanskar” despite being in the fold of saffron last year.
Priyanka Gandhi, along with other congressional leaders including her brother Rahul Gandhi, was on her way to Hathras on Saturday afternoon to meet with the family of a woman who died after being gang raped in the incident. at the Delhi-UP border.
There were clashes between members of Congress and the police in Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida). During the incident, a helmeted policeman held the Secretary General of Congress near her kurta at the DND toll booth as a crowd surrounded them.
In a Hindi tweet, Ms Wagh said: “How dare a policeman lay a hand on the clothes of a female political leader!”
Police should always be aware of their limitations, she said.
“Yogi Adityanath ji, who believes in Indian culture, should take strict action against these policemen,” she said.
Along with her tweet, Ms Wagh also posted a photo of the official holding Priyanka Gandhi by her clothes.
Maharashtra Youth Congress leader Satyajit Tambe praised the BJP leader’s position.
He said Ms Wagh, who left the NCP to join the BJP last year, had remained loyal to her “sanskar” despite the change in her party.
Earlier today, Gautam Buddh Nagar police apologized to Priyanka Gandhi and said they had ordered an investigation into the incident.
Photos and videos of the incident have also surfaced on social media, sparking criticism of the state government and the police.
